Johannes-Passion

The vocal ensemble Les Voix Baroques and the Arion Orchestra have joined forces for this new recording of Bach's Saint John Passion, under the direction of conductor and organist Alexander Weimann. The recording was made at the chapel of the Grand Séminaire de Montréal, following performances at the 2010 Bach Festival in Montreal. This Passion obeys the genre of the oratorio, presenting itself essentially as a narrated narrative, with personification of the protagonists whose plot refers to chapters XVIII and XIX of the Gospel of the Apostle John. In this work, Bach achieves the incomparable expressive depth with melodic beauty, the feelings linked to the various keys and the richness of the harmonies.
