Portland Baroque Orchestra’s newly released Avie label recording of J.S. Bach’s iconic Saint John Passion is now available for purchase at Amazon.  The recording features Joshua singing the role of Jesus and the haunting Betrachte, meine Seel.  PBO is led by renowned violinist Monica Huggett.  Ms. Huggett has produced numerous best-selling and acclaimed recordings for Avie, notably the Grammy®-nominated Bach Orchestral Suites, which made the Top 10 of Billboard’s Traditional Classical Chart.  This ear-opening version, Ms. Huggett claims, restored Suite No. 2 to its original instrumentation. She makes a similar case with this new recording of Bach’s Saint John Passion, placing oboes where we typically hear flutes and arguing that Bach’s original score was produced during his early years in Leipzig, where flutes were unavailable to him.  Joshua is joined by outstanding English tenor Charles Daniels, and fellow Canadian soloists Shannon Mercer, Matthew White, Jacques-Olivier Chartier, and Tyler Duncan.
