This vocal recital offers four cycles of twentieth-century melody, in contrasting styles and mannerisms. Although seemingly unrelated at first sight, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel, Srul Irving Glick's South of North – Images of Canada, Paul Bowles' Blue Mountain Ballads, and Samuel Barber's Three Songs, Opus 45 are united by the English language while sharing the same attachment to place and more specifically to nature.
